Preview documentation for the upcoming Shard plugin. This describes the current build; setup and availability may change before release.
Read and inspect.
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
| ReadScripts | Read current editor source, including unsaved edits. |
| InspectPath | Inspect object children, properties, attributes and tags. |
| SearchCode / SearchObjects | Find script text or objects in the place. |
| GetStudioState | Check selection, open scripts and Studio mode. |
| GetOutput | Read available Studio Output messages. |
Make changes.
EditScripts edits or creates scripts. Existing source must have been read in the same run; changes to that source require another read. One call can contain several edits.
ApplyInstanceChanges creates, updates, deletes, renames and reparents instances. It handles properties, attributes, tags and typed Roblox values. Script source is handled by EditScripts.
RunCode executes Luau against the edit-time place and returns logs, results and errors. It does not run your gameplay or prove a feature works.
Undo has boundaries.
Script and instance calls record named Studio undo steps. RunCode also starts a recording, but external actions and background work may outlive that recording. Undo cannot reverse a web request.
If a call fails or is stopped, some changes may remain. Inspect before retrying. Long-running code must yield for timeout and cancellation checks to run.
Code execution is powerful.
RunCode executes at plugin identity. Its module isolation protects against some access paths but is not a complete security boundary; code can access plugin GUI services. There is no authored approval step before execution in the current build.
Reference and guidance.
BrowseWeb looks up Roblox documentation, searches the web or reads a page. LoadSkill brings in a built-in workflow. Retrieved content is treated as reference material in Shard’s instructions.
Choose who runs web search.
The web search button in AI settings shows whose search runs: the Shard logo with Shard search, or the search provider’s logo with Provider search. Click it to switch; the choice is saved for each provider. Shard search is the default: BrowseWeb searches and reads pages through Shard, and those calls count toward your Shard web-browse allowance.
Provider search uses the selected provider’s own built-in web search instead, on your API key or connected account. Shard adds no web-search limit of its own; each request still counts as one message, as usual. The provider’s billing, rate limits and plan rules apply, and many API providers charge per search on top of tokens, so check their pricing. With Provider search, BrowseWeb keeps only its Roblox documentation lookup and never falls back to Shard search.
| Provider | Provider search |
|---|---|
| OpenAI, xAI, Meta | Built-in web search, which can also open pages. Billed to your API key. |
| Anthropic | Web search and web fetch. Search is billed per use to your API key; fetch costs tokens only. |
| OpenRouter | OpenRouter’s web search and fetch (the model’s native search where it has one). Billed to your credits. |
| Codex (connected) | Codex live web search on your ChatGPT account; counts toward its plan limits. |
| Claude Code (connected) | WebSearch on your Claude account; counts toward its plan usage. Reading arbitrary pages is not available. |
| Groq | Browser search on GPT-OSS 120B and 20B, billed to your Groq API key. Other models use Shard search. Groq documentation. |
| Z.AI | Web Search and Web Reader through your GLM Coding Plan key, using its plan allowance. Chat stays on the Coding Plan endpoint. Z.AI documentation. |
| Moonshot / Kimi | Search Basic ($0.002), Search Pro ($0.003) and page fetch ($0.002), billed directly to your Kimi key. Failed calls and empty results or content are free. Search content also uses normal chat tokens. Kimi pricing. |
| Amazon Bedrock | Web search on GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra and Luna through bedrock-mantle in their supported US Regions, billed to your AWS account ($0.012 per search query, plus tokens). Page reads use Bedrock's cache. Claude models use Shard search. Your key needs the Bedrock inference and Search/Fetch permissions. AWS documentation. |
| Gemini | Uses Shard search. Gemini's grounded search requires Google's Search Suggestions widget, which Studio cannot display. Google's requirements. |
| Shard-hosted GPT-6 Luna | OpenAI web search costs 0.01 Shards per confirmed search call, plus reported token usage at the applicable model rates. It does not use your Shard web-browse allowance. |
| Shard-hosted GPT-6.1 Sol | Codex live search has no separate search surcharge. Reported tokens are charged at Shard’s published API-equivalent rates. It does not use your Shard web-browse allowance. |
When Provider search finds pages, Shard lists them under the answer.
Shard uses a provider’s reported monetary total when available. Otherwise, it calculates charges from confirmed usage and the rates saved for that request. Missing usage stays pending or unbilled; an input estimate is never a final charge. API-equivalent pricing for a subscription is Shard’s customer price, rather than a per-request invoice from the subscription provider.
